Hello sir, #Iwork4AW. Regardless if you have warranty or not please send us an email to: AWCC-Resolution_Experts@dell.com including your service tag and contact information. Make sure you include a brief description of the issues so we can take care, thank you
Dell- Chris, who is this guy that all of a sudden pops up? no reference anywere to who he is ect... since technically alienware dont exist its dell .... .. dunno just confused since he asking for private information
um as for OP the video card for laptops are OEM parts they cant be purchased otherwise now there is a website in the UK that does sell them and you can always ebay , but thats your choice DELL Chris can give you the part # and the spare partsline # to see about a replacement but it wont be cheap
Just fixed my problem with Dell. They did have the 5870 but they didnt offer it too me because its not "compatible" WI th M15x only M17x even though my laptop came equipped with it. The highest my computer suppose to take is a 5850. So I finally convinced them to sell it too me and yea it wasnt cheap.
89fordprobee, Yes, they are Dell employees. My apologies. I should have given you all a heads up that they were coming online. They work for the Dell/Alienware SMaC (Social Media and Communities) just like I do. Their naming convention will be nameatAW.
ChicanoDude, The part number for the Dell 5870m is C8245. But I am really shocked that the M15x can drive that card without doing damage to the other components.
Thank you Chris. When the new M15x came out the option was available to have the 5870 but later on they noticed the fan speed or something else I forgot wasnt enough to support the 5870 so they stopped making that option available. So far all the other components are fine, it does over heat dramatically so I have a cooling pad and a small fan next to it to help it out. Other than that it runs perfect!

It's good to see that Dell has hired reps to handle problems, but I also question the constant requests to pull the discussions "offline" to private email.
While it should provide end-users with individualized support ... it sort-of defeats the idea of a forum because those solutions can't be Searched later or history record created (to help others now and later). Hopefully, the rep. will post back the eventual solution in the original thread.
Just something that comes to mind ... maybe we can't have it both ways.
As far as I can tell it is not broken, but that the streaming textures of the Frostbite 2 engine, 4 GPU and the motherboard is overloading something. I think it is either the Video ram on one of the GPU or the PCI channel is overloading or overheating. So it would a design or a generation problem with the archiecture. And I'm thinking the motherboard is the weakest link or video memory is over heating. But it would take low level checking of the data or temp monitoring of the chips to find the failure point. This might be one reason they pulled the Area-51, the Motherboard chipset was getting a bit old.
Short answer, Frostbite 2 engine is going to murder any Area-51 with 2-4 GPUs
But now that i can feel where the failure point is, i can downgrade programs with the Frostbite 2 engine to keep the system stable.
Yes sort of the idea will be to take the most out of your warranty, and then if its solved just come back to paste the solution. And the guys working on the issue will be the LV3 department specifically so it’s not like the issue is just sent to a random mailbox. I’ll be introducing myself around this days on the forum. Thank You :)
