New M14X R2 Issue
Hi all,
I just bought a new Windows 8 M14X R2 and I was trying to replace the hard drive with a new SSD that I had purchased. I disabled secureboot and changed boot to legacy.
Windows 7 seems like it's loading, then it bluescreens and restarts. Anyone know the proper bios settings or why Windows 7 is not booting up?
Thanks a lot!

Does the same thing happen if you try to install Windows 8?

I'm just about to try the same process as it seems dell failed to include a factory image so I can't respawn to the original settings!
- have you tried disabling fast boot in the bios?
- can you boot into safe mode? it could be a driver issues
I'll be trying soon so I'll let you know what happens!

sadly my problem lies in there being no factory image to restore back to! I've dropped an email to awsocialmedia@dell.com on 1st april so will give it till the weekend then go and buy win 8 pro upgrade and downgrade to 7, then upgrade, but dell has more than likely lost a customer...

Did your system come originally with Windows 8 or with Windows 7? If it came with Windows 7 and you upgraded to Windows 8, the recovery partition will not work, so you have to clean install the OS from scratch, get rid of the recovery partition and install drivers and apps, and then download and re install Alienrespawn from www.alienrespawn.com.
1. Clean Install Windows 7:
How to Install Windows 7?
2. Install the Windows 8 upgrade:

3. Install updates, drivers and apps.
4. Download and install Alienrespawn:

hi Nat, I didnt have any win 8 dvd's included so I got in touch with dell....well I eventually got a win 8 resource DVD.... did the recovery and got 0xc00001 - each time i boot. - tried pretty much everything I found on the net.... nothing worked, even auto repair failed.
so I've bought win 8 pro and will do a fresh install. I've had dell's for year's, I love Alienware but dell are so very very rubbish. I don't think I'll be buying alienware / dell again due to the terrible service I've received. It was a sad day when alienware sold up :(

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the service, I'll be happy to help you with anything I can. Let me know how the re install goes, and PM me if you come across any other issues.
