Odd fan noise
I just bought an alienware 17 r2 a few weeks ago and every time I turn on the computer after 5 or 10 minutes the computer freezes and the left fan goes on then the right one goes on and then the computer is back to normal. It just seems odd for it to be normal. I bought this because my old laptop had its fan fail so I don't wanna go through the same thing.

Hi,
Make sure your system is running the latest Bios firmware, click here for the download link. Does the freezing happen before it goes into Windows or afterwards?

Hi,
Thanks for confirming this. Try starting Windows in Safe Mode to confirm if the same thing happens. Did you update the Bios firmware?

I started it in safe mode and the noise didn't happen. I did update the Bios.

Thanks for confirming this. Check in Programs and Features for a program called Support Assist or Alien Autopsy, if they are listed, uninstall them and restart the system. Click here for the Support Assist download link, install it again and confirm if the noise continues.

I uninstalled the support assist and reinstalled it but the noise still happens.

Hi,
This issue could be software related since it does not happen in safe mode. We are not sure which program or setting could be causing Windows to freeze and the fan to kick in like this. Therefore, we recommend you restore your system to factory settings using Alien Respawn. This will delete your data so make sure to backup your personal files.
