Question about motherboard

OK well I have an Alienware aurora with intel core i7 overclocked to 3.36.

If I wanted to upgrade to sandy bridge would that be possible? I know you need a new motherboard but can aurora's get new motherboards? Thanks.

Which i7 CPU do you have? It can be changed but it may not be worth it. It would be a slight upgrade compaired to the cost and If you have the i7 980x then you have a better CPU already.

You should compair the price of the SB upgrade to that of other components in the system. You may get a better bang for you buck with a SSD,GPU or memory upgrade. Then again the SB could be the better option.

But ether way the answer is yes it can be changed.

The newer auroras have sandybridge so you might be able to buy one for those from Dell and the lights will probably work. But they will most likely charge you $500 for the board and I doubt its as good as a $200 name brand board.  If you dont buy it from Dell the lights and fans probably wont work properly because of the MIO board compatibility.

For the $500 bucks you also get to keep your warranty, tech support and operating system.
