Refurbished alienware m17x r4
hi there,
i have been looking a lot of places, but couldnt come up with an answer, therefore here i am.
i am a New Zealand resident who will be visiting US this month.
i m thinking to pick up a refurbished alienware m17x r4 from ebay while i am there.
just wondering whether i can transfer the ownership in order to claim global warranty for refurbished unit??
the model is available here in New Zealand, however I have been told that i will need to refer to Dell US for the correct answer.
Somebody please help!!!!!

Dell makes it easy to transfer the warranty and ownership of Dell products from one owner to another owner and from one country to another. The transfer process can take up to 10 business days (domestic transfer) and up to 15 business days (international transfer).
Please note not all product types and service contract types are available for transfer outside of Purchase Country. Please review this list for the most common service contract types that are non-transferable

Thanks for the answer.
So you are suggesting that I should be getting the warranty honor in NZ if anything goes wrong??
Can I please a Dell staff to verify this as I don't really want to have my laptop ship back to US when it breaks down.

Hi Chris,
Because there is no ebay in New Zealand, and they charge almost double for the unit I am looking for here compare to ebay.

Why not make it easier on yourself and just buy the system from someone in your country on ebay? Why buy it in the USA and then export it to New Zealand?

Hi Chris,
I am fully aware of the risk purchasing on ebay.
However, for the same spec, I need to pay over NZ$4000 whereas I can get one from ebay for NZ$2000, only it's a refurbished unit.
My concern is, whether warranty of a refurbished unit can be transferred to NZ in case anything breaks.

The ownership can be transferred to New Zealand. But anything on ebay is suspect. You should just buy from our website.

So the ownership can be transferred to NZ, and warranty still be honorable??

Thank you Chris for clarifying into details, really appreciated.
The model I am buying is a m17x r4 which has just released, and the owner claimed its warranty expired July 2013.
Either I will be upgrading my warranty to 3 years.

In theory, yes. But it totally depends on the purchased warranty originally attached to the service tag number. So if the original buyer only purchased a 1 year warranty, keeps it for 15 months, then sells it to you, yes, you can transfer the service tag into your name, but the purchased warranty has expired.
