Sound not working 17r2

My sound has been intermittently working for the past month or so. I started by trying to reinstall the driver, but it didnt work as it said there was a driver already installed, even though i unistalled in device manager. Now for it to work I have to go in device manager and change it between the onboard driver and the sound blaster driver till it works. The onboard mic works as well, but any external one doesnt anymore. The mic issue was recent as of the audio issues. Any help on a permanent fix would be greatly appreciated.
