So back to my original question. Is it possible to use that psu in my R3?? Though i may have to upgrade to the 875 watt psu anyway
Depends on the size. If it fits it will work. The connections are all the same but you may need to mod the back plate or bezel cover that goes on the PSU and you may need to remove a couple HDD bays. Some PSU's are longer and you need to remove two of the HDD bays to make it fit.
My current PSU is the 525 watt that came with my aurora. My card my be screwed so was thinking of upgrading. OCZ PSU is sitting collecting dust in my old comp. Its pretty much mint.

Kinda strange you got an Aurora R3 with the 525w Power Supply. Are you sure it's not the 875w? Have you removed it and looked at the hidden large sticker on top?
Havent removed it. Didnt even know there was a sticker. Pretty sure i ordered it with the 525 watt psu. Didnt have alot of cash when i ordered it. So pretty much got the baseline system. Firgured i would upgraded when ever i had cash to do it.
875 watt was extra money option when i ordered it.
@Tesla1856, actually it depends on the config when you get it. There are in fact R3's with 525W supply. Normally if you get a single VC you get the 525 and if you get a dual config you get the 875W one.

This user had to remove the two HDD bays. http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19439601.aspx?PageIndex=2

The best forum to post this in, is the Alienware Owners Club, I am moving the thread to it.

Why do you need to do the upgrade? Are you planning to change the video card or something in it?
What is your current PSU?
