Upgrading Ram problems
Hi All
I have a 2012 R4 Aurora alx build
Sandy bridge i7 3820 cpu gtx 980 sli 8gb ram 1600mhz
IThe problem is ive purchased 16GB 4x4GB Corsair dominator platinum 2400mhz ram and it will not boot when installed ?
Ive tried every conceivable configuration with the sticks themselves, reset the cmos jumper, removed the cmos battery etcetc and still no joy.
The system powers up fine but no signal to the monitor although all the fans lights and everything else seem to be working fine ??? there are no beeps at all and by all accounts the tower seems to think its working fine but no signal.
I Replace the original old 8GB 1600mhz sticks and it all works fine ???
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm scratching my head after all avenues exhausted ???
Thanks

Hi Steant,
It sounds like you've done what you can do. The issue here, to me, seems like the R4 Aurora isn't compatible with 2400MHz RAM. That or the CAS Latency of the RAM itself is off from the system's design.
If you mixed the RAM, old with new, does it work? Say put 2 sticks of the original in two slots and the Corsair into the other slots to see if you get anything then?

Thanks Jim
I never thought of doing this i thought it would maybe fry the board but.........
.........It hasnt and now i have 12GB as two are working with the other two being my original ram ??
In cpu-z it is showing xmp profiles in the two new sticks of 1333mhz but i am still unable to find any xmp option in Bios running A11 any ideas and what would you advise now ???

Hey Ste,
That's for-sure that your system doesn't support your newer RAM's speed. Looks like it only runs at 1333 or 1600. If you can, return that 2400MHz RAM for some that's at a slower speed.

I got these about a year ago and they're great.
8GB DDR3 PC3-12800 MEMORY MODULE
Not sure if those are available now, but go to Crucial and they have them by the manufacturer and model, so you can identify for Aurora R4 specifically.
Here is where you can find them

Hi Ste,
GGCAN makes a good suggestion if Crucial is your preference; there's definitely nothing wrong with them. I've been using Kingston's HyperX RAM for a long time.
This is their results for the Aurora R4, looks like all their 1600MHz 16GB sets are $178 US:

I hope the upgrade works well for you!
