X51 GTX660 graphics switching problem
Hi.
I have a problem with my X51 since upgrading the bios from A08 to A12.
Before the update optimus was working fine when i used the IGP hdmi port and so was the sound.
However when i upgraded, the sound stopped working, it basically said that my tv was not connected and would only use the realtek adapter.
So i updated the geforce drivers from dell thinking that it needed reinstalling but that did not solve the issue.
Following the posts on this and other forums i then completely removed ALL display drivers and reinstalled them in the correct order , intel then nvidia.
Now when plugged into the igp hdmi port i get no sound and although i can still select the nvidia to play games (run with graphics processor) it does not use it.
It all works fine when using the hdmi port on the nvidia card (including sound) but obviously i cannot take advantage of optimus switching which i want.
Any ideas?

Hi.
Sorry, I forgot to update this post as I got it working last week.
I completely removed all the drivers from my system.
I then rebooted into the bios and, as Taomyn has already suggested, changed the bios back to IGP instead of discrete.
It then rebooted so i was using the intel gpu. Windows then automatically download and installed the driver.
I then rebooted and installed the Nvidia drivers from nvidia, not the dell ones.
Everything works now.
One added benefit i have now is that i always see the bios screen when connected to the intel hdmi port, i no longer have to change ports.

Sounds to me like you're using the DVI for video and the HDMI for sound right? In which case, check your BIOS settings as the upgrade will have switched the default for video to the discrete nVidia card instead of the Intel and this disables the on-board HDMI like this. Just set it back.
I've told Dell numerous times that the BIOS upgrade should not touch the setting, but they never listen even though none of the other settings I change in the BIOS ever get wiped by an upgrade (on this or any other Dell machine I use daily).
