X51 R1 upgrade
Hi,
I have serious heat problems with my 660 (R1) and i want to change/upgrade it. My main goal is to have a cooler and quieter system.
I've read that at some conditions, I can have a 970 in my case if i have the good adaptater. Then i have several questions :
I have this adaptater :
Question 1 :
I think it's the 300w version, can you confirm ?
Question 2 :
If it's the 330w version, I think i'll buy a 970. But are the 970 cooler than 660 ?
Question 3 :
If it's not the 330w version, which card would be better that 660 (perf + cooler) ?

Yup need anR2 powerboard to support the 970.

A. That's the 330w PSU.
B. The GTX 970 could be slightly cooler than the GTX 660. You'll want to buy a reference design card (look at your GTX 660 for reference).
And as paztine said, you'll want the R2 power board.

Umm How much does it cost ? Is it hardware to install ?
Which other card do you propose without the need on the r2 power bar ?

The power board can be quite expensive since they are rare to find (and Dell only sells them if you have the X51 R2).
The GTX 960 should install without the need for the R2 power board.

The 960 looks a bit cooler then it can be interesting for me.
What about radeon, do they propose something egal ? I've never seen someone propose a radeon to upgrade a x51 51. Why ?

Funny you mention Radeon. I have an R9 285 (AMD equivalent of the GTX 960) in my X51 for kicks and giggles. It was more intended for my Graphics Amplifier, but I don't have another desktop GPU with me for the desktop, so why not.
It, uhh... gets hot very quickly because of its fan design. But it works great whenever it doesn't thermal throttle. Haven't had the computer shut down despite it having a high TPD of 195w or something of that number. Have to keep the room temp at 72 F just to lower the chances of thermal throttling.
The AMD GPUs that I know have a reference design are the R9 270, R9 270x, R9 370 (OEM GPU), and R7 370, all of which are rebrands of the HD 7800 series. If the R9 380 comes with a reference design, some people might want to look into getting one. But I won't recommend it anyways.
