X51 R2 GPU Upgrade

I'm looking to breathe some life into an old X51 R2 for my lad's first PC. here are the specs...

Alienware X51 : Matte Stealth Black Chassis (ConfigD)
Operating System : Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium (64 BIT)
Graphics : 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Power Supply : Alienware 330W AC Adapter
Hard Drive : 2TB SATA 3Gb/s 7, 200rpm Hard Drive
Memory : 8192MB (2x4GB) 1600MH z DDR3 Dual Channel
Processor : Intel Core i7-3770 (3.40GHz, 8MB L3 Cache, 4C)

I'm leaning towards a GTX 1050 Ti card but would like to be sure if it would be suitable. And if it is, what brand would be best?
