2-Beep Error on Post (Keyboard? Floppy?)
DELL Dimension XPS T600, Intel 440BX (FW82443BX) Dec 1999
Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 Version A07
Windows 98
On power-up I get a 2-beep error message and my machine freezes on the “blue screen” and my diagnostic lights show a GGGY. If I then press “esc” the system comes online and the entire machine works fine. I found out problem is eliminated if I disconnect the keyboard. But my PS/2 keyboard and cable work fine on other machines, and the keyboard clock pulse and voltage checked out ok with a scope. Problem remains even if I use another keyboard. Now looking at the problem a different way… if I press “del” during POST¸ I get ERROR message “02B0:Diskette Drive A error.” I tried reseating the ribbon cable on the 3.5” floppy but that didn’t help. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Larry
