Got my 2.2/400/512k off ebay for around $120 (about 3 months ago). The swap was very easy and straightforward. There's a release lever on each side of the heatsink. Once you remove the heatsink, you will have access to the actual CPU ZIF socket. The system will automatically recognize the new CPU, and you can verify it in the BIOS.
Not at all! That's one of the main reasons I wanted to upgrade. I also went from 256k to 512k. I'm in a position where I need to use my 4300S for doing 3D CAD work, and needed as much performance upgrade as I could get. It was a great upgrade. Between that and 512 megs of RAM, the 4300S will get me by for what I need.
I looked at the Dimension 4300 specs and it shows a 1.5 to 2.0 p4. I have a dimension with a 1.4 p4 and am wondering if I have the same motherboard and can upgrade?
You can upgrade to a 2.6 Ghz 400 mhz Pentium 4. For more information post your question (including your system model) in the Dimension - Upgrade Hardware forum.
I upgraded my Dimension 4300 from a 1.6 MHz processor to a 2.6 MHz processor. Although the speed of my system did improve, it was not a huge difference. I do not think it was worth the money to upgrade the processor. My money would have been better spent buying a new computer. (If anyone wants a good deal on my 2.6 processor, let me know).

Hi,
According to your systems "Technical Specifications"
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
you can use a processor that runs at 2 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally.

Thanks,..
The only thing that I see different is my spec says..256K cache..and the new CPU is 512K cache...is that a problem?

indy5mike,
You need to post the exact model number of your computer (if it is not a 4300) in order for someone to give a valid answer to your question.
