8300 blue screen and problems

Greetings,

I bought a Dell 8300 in May and have had nothing but problems!!   Besides the Samsung burner that works when it feels like it I get the dreaded blue screen of death repeatedly while using the internet or while trying to download or burn music.   I tried following your thread but I don't know where the other posts were.   My  blue screen is almost identical to dwrt's:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer...

Technical Information:

Stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xF79B2C12, 0xB1ABA944, 0x0000000)

MpFirewall.sys - Address F79B2C12 base at F79B1000, Datestamp 3d40500a

Windows goes in to it's error report and says it is an unknown driver problem.   So you believe this is all due to the McAfee virus program and firewall?

Any help would be appreciated.

I think unfortunately - this is a symptom of rubbishy XP not the pc.

Ive had this happen to me already on my new XP 8300 system.

Ive had a Dell 8100 system with 2000 Prof on it and never ever had a blue screen of death ...

Windows 2003 has come out but its only really for servers so far..and its in pretty bad state as well

for having good drivers ...

I wish that I could tell you that all is well but it is not.   Mt blue screens have slacked off but are still there when I least expect it.  I simply do not have the time to call dell so I have not given them a chance but I really don't think I should have to.

Best of luck to you.

Have you had any luck finding a fix?  I've had my 8300 since June and I get the Blue Screen constantly. I contacted Dell and we went through some stuff, but no help. Please let me know if you or anyone had a solution.

Hi

I'm in the same boat as you guys. Bought my Dimension 8300 in June and I also get the BSOD when I'm on the web.  I have diagnosed all the hardware on my system and I have clean installed Windows XP, installed all the latest versions of the drivers and flashed the BIOS, but still get the problem.  Recently though, I submitted the problem to Microsoft and they have determined that it is a driver.  Now the question is, which driver.  My guess is, it is the graphics, audio or network drivers.  Let's see if any of you have the same configuration as me.

Graphics card: ATI RADEON 9800

Sound card: Soundblaster Audigy 2

Integrated network card.

Hope one day soon we'll have an answer to this problem.

You have the same line up that I do.  I too participated in the Windows problem solver on the internet and I get the same response - it's a driver.   Never any indication of which one, just that it is a driver.   I have about 10 listed and they are supposed to be "being tracked" and a solution will be posted when one is found.  Yeah right.

\\Good luck my friend.

Hi

I have decided to try and install the latest Intel Network driver (v8.0) and see if that solves my problem. Also, unlike you Steve, I have Norton Antivirus.  My stop error message is:

Stop: 0X000007F (0X00000000 0X00000000 0X00000000 0X00000000)

According to Microsoft this is a division by zero error, which confirms my believe that it is a driver problem. Since I've focused so much on the audio and graphics drivers, I decided to give the network driver a try.  BTW, I got the BSOD with the Dell supplied graphics driver as well as the latest driver from ATI's website. The latest audio driver from Soundblaster does strange things (while booting up, the sounds stops for a second), so I went back to the driver supplied on a separate CD from Dell.

I will keep you posted if I find sufficient time has gone by and I have not received the BSOD again with the new network driver.

Good luck to you!

I have the NV 5200 Card - Found the following :

1. Install DX9 - Games that dont use it stop working.
Or
2. Install latest detonator drivers - games stop working.

Anyone had problems like this ?

I have a solution but it takes time and when you know what is causing the problem you might have to re-install windows again after you find the problem

first you have to re-install windows xp then install one thing at a time so that you can see what is causing the BSOD then after you find it out you can update it the driver that is causing the problem or if you thing that is going to cause more problems then you can re-install windows xp and don't install the driver that caused the problem and go online and get the latest driver

Im no computer whiz but because i own a Dimension 8300 and have had the BSOD at unlikely moments i have been reading alot of these forums and found certain things to certainly cause you problems:

1)- USB drivers for using cable internet is a likely cause of the BSOD, as i only began getting the BSOD the day i installed cable internet. It destroyed my computer every 40 minutes or so, but when i simply switched my cable modems access to my computer through my network card instead of a USB plug, and deleted those &^%!$! USB drivers, EVERYTHING was fine after that. My Dim 8300 runs internet like a dream now.

2)- Mcaffee programs/firewalls seem to cause alot of people here conflicts and problems who run Win XP/Dim 8300. I use Norton luckily, but i advise you just purge your beautful, expensive Dimension 8300's of this junk program and get yourself a free firewall or antivirus program, or a good paid one like Norton.

I know that might not help alot, but hopefully it can confirm some guesses and make you guys know what to do next.

Goodluck!

Daniel

I un-installed McAfee two days ago and I have not had a BSOD YET.  I have read many forums concerning this conflict with McAfee.  I use Norton's Internet Security with Norton's AntiVirus and eventhough it is a bit complicated to format to your perticular needs, I like all the extra protection you get.  Not to mentioned I only paid $20 after two rebates.  I hope this takes care of the BSOD.
