Added XP from a reformatted hard drive. Now I can't install ACS 495. XP tells me that they were made for WIN95. My system XPS R 450. Are there any drivers for XP I can d/l?
Neither Dell nor Altec Lansing provide updated (W2K/XP compatible) drivers for the ACS 495 as far as I know. The speakers can only act as stand alone (no USB interface) with XP or W2k.....
Anyone with information to the contrary, please post.
Hello - I have the Altec Lansing ACS495 speakers from my old Dell system that I want to use with my new Dell 8300 with the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card.
Check out Knowledge Base articles FA1014055 and RG1017358, and download 495_W98.exe. I have been asking Dell Tech Support if it is OK to load that audio driver on my system. Tech support referred me to software and they in turn referred me to customer care who completed the merry=go-round by referring me back to tech support. Finally, tech support, Jack I believe, said he would look into it and get back with me which he never did. So, Dell Support is annoying to say the least.
My speakers work as stated above in the stand alone setting. But I want to enjoy the full functionality of the speaker system, i.e. Pro Logic, surround-sound. I am just about ready to install the download driver above and find out what happens. So, does anyone have wisdom or guidance on the issues?
Problem is as stated previously.......as far as I know, the software/drivers/controlpanel, etc have not been updated to support Windows XP or Windows 2000, hence the stand alone mode.....no USB interface .....
Looks like just another way that Altec is getting us to go out and buy their new speakers. I also have a set of 495's and are awesome and want to throw them on the new Dell with XP Pro but how is it not USB compatible???They should be ashamed of themselves for letting us,their customers, go and waste perfectly good speakers just to make the almighty $$ once again. I feel like uninstalling XP and throwing 98se back in out of spite!
