Alert! Power Button Cable Failure.

A friend of mine has a inspiron 620, where the motherboard has died.

He ordered a replacement and I switched the motherboard over for him.

But now when ever he turns on the machine he gets this power button cable failure message. I've gone back inside and checking all the connections. It obviously works because the button turns the machine on.

Any idea on how we solve this? Even if it's just a way to disable warning messages.

Check pins in connectors at both ends. Possible one of them is bent or damaged?

Possible the cable failed?

Don't know where you got that replacement motherboard, but is it defective and unable to see that cable connection?

I have the same Alter! now after changing Dell XPS 8900 desktop case to a generic one. I understand Dell uses non-standard front panel connector to its own motherboard.

How did you solve the problem eventually?

Thanks

Jumping pins 9 and 12 seems to stop the error at least in the case of the xps 8900

Try ti simulate the exact pin layout of the original connector. On the 8900 pins 9-11 and 9-12 are jumped.

Maybe it applies to other machines as well
