Alert! processor incompatible press f1

Question

I have a 5150 Dimension and have updated the 630 processor with a pentium D925 I have already the 07 bios. The thing is everything works fine except after the post screen i get the message 'alert! processor incompatible press f1 to continue or F2 to enter,,,,,, Like I say windows works fine but this message is an anoyance. CPUZ gives all the correct readings as does the bios, ,,any thoughts.. thanks

It is a motherboard/bios compatibility issue, no way to correct the F1 issue with that processor. :smileysad:

here are a few details;
Pentium D925
945G chipset.
Mobo owg 261.
2gig 533 mem.
Saphire 1950 pro graphics.
Bios A07.

Like i say everything works fine except for;

Alert! Processor incompatible press f1 to continue or F2 to enter bios.
The bios reads the processor correctly, so does windows! "Its starting to BUG me!!!"

Correct me if I am wrong but didnt the the o5 to 07 bios give
the ability to use newer processors.

Some members have upgraded to the 9XX series without this irritation!

comp still working fine (for now) ,, still get the "Alert! Processor incompatible press f1,,,, Blah de Blah,, yawn

Hi, I have linked to a few thread on this below, some people have got 9XX CPUs running in 5150's with no compatibility alert, one school of thought is that it depends on motherboard spec, it has also been said that the pulled A06 Bios enabled dual core though Dell pulled it prior to the E520 launch.   I have A06 though have not tried a dual core on this machine.   By the way, if you can use a 9XX then I reckon you should be able to run an 800Mhz FSB Core 2 Duo or Pentium Dual core, i.e. E4X00 or  E21X0. Thanks 50pence, seems I have opened a can of worms..LoL

It seems the mobo owg 261 has this glitch but I see that
Chasbox has been trying everything from different Bios to
a different Mobo.
The thing is everything works fine except
for this one glitch and have a real improvement, so I am
going to leave it as so.

Many thanks for the PM, I have though about buying a 660/1 or perhaps 570 though they are not so much faster than a 630 and an E2140 or E2160 can be had for under £50, might be worth a try one day.

By the way I have the AO6 Bios .exe file, I could zip it and e-mail it if you PM an e-mail address though you would try it at your risk.

it seems Chasbox is on a mission to get rid of the F1 nag
he says he has tried the 05, 06, 07 bios's and it has made no difference.

what we all need is a new Bios update!!!( Dell can you here us!)

The thing is if you press F2 to enter the bois then exit you dont
get the F1 or F2 message, so its just a glitch.

I have read that another member put a Pentium 661 in his board and
he has the F1 nag now.

We will have to wait till somebody gives the Pentium Dual core E2140 or E2160
a go. ( F1 nag get ready, or the old Blue screen)

Is it me or is Intel starting to get confusing with these different dual
core processors?

Not only Chasbox, but me as well, we're trying to get a solution for this problem that hasn't been solved for like a year but still...we couldn't find what's wrong.

But I'm sure that the Dell BIOS can fix this. I wish there is some Dell tech who can help us...

Yes I quite agree with you mate, the thing is our system is quite old now
and I think that Dell are too concerned with selling new systems than
worrying about us who want to upgrade our systems ourselves.

I mean on mine apart from the case the motherboard and my psu, there
isn't much of the original left. This is the case with many other members as well.

In around 6 months when newer processors, better dx10 cards come out i am going back
to building my own system. That way you get what you want with a good opportunity of upgrades. With a dell you are quite restricted, although I haven't had many problems with it.

I will restore my Dell to its original state and sell it on.

Same here man, I'm going to build my own system too. Starting by November or December I'm going to buy each part of my new build month by month. So I'll probably have all parts that I need by June or July except for the video and sound cards (Still waiting for better ones or maybe price drop lol)

I don't really know much about computers when I first bought my E510, if only I knew I woulda just build my own.

I regret to say that this is my first and last purchase from Dell (Sorry Dell)

Re building a PC, I too am looking at building a high end machine for fun. However I have just bought a Dell Vostro as a family PC, no gaming, all I have I added is a graphics card and sound card, I couldn't have built it for what it cost.     Regards.

myself and 50pence got ours around the same time and like yourself along came core2 duo and "Bugger, cant fit that". Well that what they tell us although there are some 945 chipset mobo's out there that can!

Anyway, core 2 duo has gone 1333fsb, the latest dx10 graphics cards with the exception of the 8800 gtx cards wont play new games(Dx10) at the fps that everyone expects ( wait for the next gen') and ddr3 mem' is coming on board. So as usual a few months can change everything and a proud owner can soon find himself with an outdated comp' very quicky.

So take joy in that we are not the only ones who have been left behind.
What does annoy me is Dells lack of response to a new Bios update to solve an annoying problem that could be solved.

Have any of you trie this? Dissable Hyper-Threading in the bios, and go to the control panel and delete the old processor from 'Processor' in the Device Manager... Then restart.  The computer should see the new processor...David... Please post your results...
