An exception OE...
Hello. I hope I'm in the right place to ask this question.
I'm getting this message on a blue screen when I turn on the computer.
" An exception OE has occured at 0028:C1463504 in VxD RMM (01) + 00000554.
This was called from 0028:C14634FE in VxD RMM(01) + 0000054E.
It may be possible to continue normally.
* Press any key to attempt to continue.
* Press ctrl + alt + del to restart your computer. You will lose any unsaved information in all applications.
Press any key to continue."
My computer is Dimension XPS R400 (Windows 98) and I ran through the Dell Diagnostics and Dell Harddrive Diagnostics and utilities. All passed. I also ran through the virus scan. All are clear. I tried to run Norton WinDoctor and Norton Disk Doctor and under safe mode, they didn't work.
I can only get to the Safe Mode. When I try to restart under "safe mode", I still get the message above. If I press any key, nothing happens for some time (ab. 15 mins or so) then I get another message on a black screen saying that "Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer."
I changed my monitor to LCD monitor (Samsung SyncMaster CX711T) a month ago. This is the only change I've made recently.
Would you/anybody please help me to solve this problem? I'm not an computer expert and I wouldn't know what info. you would need. So please let me know if you need more info.

Hehe, this is around the third time ive suggested this method today:
I assume you are running XP, if so do the following to resolve your problem:
Pop in your XP cd and restart, as it restarts press F12 and select ATAPI CD ROM, then when it says "press anykey to boot from CD," press a key.
After this, it will load files (at the bottom of the screen it will say "setup is loading file [filename]") and at the first menu u are brought to after this, you will see many options. Press "r" to get into the recovery console. In the command line of the recovery console, type "chkdsk /p" and let it finish. Judging by your error, it will probably say "one or more errors weree found on the disk" so now type "fixboot" and confirm by typing "y", then it will write a new boot sector for you. After this, restart your computer and TA DA, itll boot up perfectly!

A rather exhausive search turned up only the following:
RMM.VXD -
A windows file used to direct I/O to real-mode drivers, for when there is no functioning 32-bit protected mode device driver for the device
An error in RMM(01) is a possible sign of a bad memory chip
