Bios can't find Bluetooth keyboard

Question

XPS 420, bluetooth keyboard and mouse, Vista   During tech assist on other problems I was unable to get into safe mode.  Turned out the bios was not seeing the keyboard.  Can now only connect the keyboard after getting into Vista.  Does anyone know the procedure for getting a bluetooth keyboard reconnected so that bios knows about it?  I tried several methods under guidance of the Dell tech and was not successful.  I don't have a wired keyboard with USB interface.

How does the bluetooth keyboard base station connect to the PC? Does it use USB port or does the system have a bluetooth PCI card installed...?

If it uses a USB connection, try a different USB port on rear of the tower. Typically only 1 USB port is active before Windows loads USB drivers.

It has the 19 in 1 media reader with Bluetooth which is built in.  I don't know how it is slotted but no external USB port is used.

I've found similar problems losing USB devices after sleep mode is used. I've posted my problem on another thread regarding problems after hibernation/sleep. I think the Bluetooth card reader device is listed as TEAC and CAB 200 when you look for the USB/Bluetooth devices. I guess they are all interlinked but mine disappears after sleep mode is envoked if you record TV overnight using Windows Media Centre o bluetooth is available and the card reader drives aren't listed in My Computer. I also lose the DELL supplied multimedia USB keyboard which makes life tricky!  XPS 420 4GB RAM Vista Ultimate 32 bit 8800 GTX card Quad core processor
