Bios not finding bluetooth keyboard

This is also posted at Tech Talk|Desktops|Bios.  Apologize for cross-posting but wasn't getting any responses there.

XPS 420 Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core
Vista™ Home Premium
3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs
20 inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
320GB Data Security DataSafe™ (dual drives)
Keyboard & Mouse included in Dell Bluetooth Package
Wireless Networking and Modem 56K PCI Data Fax Modem (using wired network however)
Dual Drives: 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music XFI
During tech assist on other problems I was unable to get into safe mode.  Turned out the bios had stopped seeing the keyboard (I was able to get to safe mode earlier).  Can now only connect to the keyboard after getting into Vista.  Does anyone know the procedure for getting a bluetooth keyboard reconnected so that bios knows about it?  I tried several methods under guidance of the Dell tech and was not successful.  I don't have a wired keyboard with USB interface.

Is USB turned on in your BIOS.  I  had a problem with a bad keyboard and this was one of the questions tech asked me.

Maybe I wasn't clear - the keyboard connects via bluetooth.  Anyway, the USB devices I have function OK.

Sorry I wasn't clear.  I too have Bluetooth keyboard/mouse and that is why I passed on what tech asked me.

I don't know how to look at bios if the machine won't respond to the keyboard during bootup.  Its a catch 22.

That is a problem that I had too with my bad keyboard.  Except once Win Vistal finished loading mine would work.  Luckly I had an extra PS2 keyboard/mouse.  If your going to go high tech pick up some low tech keyboard/mouse next time you see them on sale.  On mine when I first got my new machine and going through the setup the bluetooth didn't work and I had to plug in my wifes usb keyboard and mouse for the first few screens until it asked me to setup the bluetooth mouse and keyboard.  Of course Dell didn't bother putting in any info on this and I wondered what a computer challanged person would do.  I know, sit on the phone for an hour to Dell to only be told, gee we're sorry but you will need to find a different mouse to get started on.

I don't have a solution for this problem, but I can say: my Logitech Bluetooth receiver (USB), which connects my Logitech DiNovo keyboard and mouse, works just fine while booting, meaning it must be recognized by the BIOS.
