Bios Update: Need Help

Question

I have the following system running Win 98se and I'm getting ready to update to Win XP Pro.

Dimension XPS T 650 with 384.0 MB of ram.

I downloaded the following file XPST A11.EXE to my hard drive and copyed it to a floppy and performed the following, With the diskette in the floppy drive, reboot the system and run the program. I get a message that reads, Invalid system disk replace the disk, and then press any key. When I do this I get the same message. What I'm I doing wrong?

Try BXPST_11.exe, download it to your desktop, doubleclick the file and follow the prompts to create a bootable diskette.

Thanks I will try that. BTW, I did check the boot order and removal devices is loaded first. I know I dont have any viruses. I thinking if the procedure that you want me to do doesn't work maybe I have a missing system file. I will get back in a few minutes.

Thanks alot that did the trick. I double checked with the Belarc Advisor and bingo..... Not real sure why the other program wouldn't work. Ole well.... May theres something else that you can help me with also. I had a program on my pc by the name Diskkeeper Lite. Big mistake....... It ran fine for a while and then when I would boot up it would say in the bootup screen that to many parameters were set up. So I remove the program and edited the registry and removed all the entries and now when I boot up I get the setting and I get a bunch of C:\ s ten of them to be exact. Do you know any cures for that big mess up?

It sounds like either there is some remains of Diskeeper trying to load or the uninstall of Diskeeper removed some needed Windows files.  Is there any indication of what the C:\........ is or what file is trying to load?   If you are upgrading the operating system then why not just do a clean install and forget about the Windows 98 errors.

Hello Majestic,

I emailed Denny and he told me to just open the autoexec.bat file and delete the entries. I did open the file which is a MS-DOS file and was in C:\ and the entries were there so I just deleted the file in C:\ and Windows recreated a new file after I rebooted and corrected the problem. Yes I will be hopping up to Win XP Pro in the near future so I wasn't really all that concerned about the problem since there were no other problems. Thanks for your input anyway. Is there anything that Denny Denham doesn't know about Windows?
