BIOS with USB Keyboard Support

I am trying to install SuSe Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1 on my Optiplex GX620 MT. The problem I have is that at the main screen after SuSe Linux has booted up from the installation DVD, it doesn't recognise my USB keyboard and so I am unable to select the "Installation" option.

After checking some knowledgebases on the Novell site, I found that the solution Novell suggests is to upgrade the BIOS to the latest available as the problem is caused by the BIOS not providing the USB keyboard support. Novell also said that since only GRUB is loaded at that screen, it doesn't have any USB keyboard drivers and requires the BIOS to detect and provide the support for the USB keyboard.

I've now updated to the latest available BIOS (A11 for the GX620) and this has not made any difference; my USB keyboard is still not detected by the BIOS and is still unavailable to the SuSe Linux Installation screen.

I've tried 3 different USB keyboards; 2 Dell & 1 Logitech - no difference; tried each and every USB port available on the GX620 - no difference.

I then tested the installation DVD (which is an original from Novell) on my Dell Vostro 200 with the same USB keyboard - it works perfectly! USB keyboard detected..so I know its not the installation DVD.

I really need to install the SLES 10 SP1 on my GX620 so using the Vostro 200 for the SLES 10 install is not an option.

Would appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions or workarounds.

Thanks

Regards,
Charles

Have you tried all the USB ports on the rear of the PC?  On many PC's only certain USB ports are active at boot up.  I just built a new PC with an Intel motherboard and I couldn't get into the BIOS until I found the right USB port.

You could also repost this on the Workstation/Optiplex section, which is the forum section for support with your PC.  HERE
