Boot up GX110?

I have recently bought my son a Dell GX110 from an auction of ex office computers.  When we switch it on it goes through the whole of the white bar then to Strike F1 for retry boot or F2 for setup facility.  I had already been in BIOS to remove the opened chassis option and had thought that maybe I had changed something by accident.  But I cannot for the life of me figure what to do to get the thing to boot and there is no option to restore the defaults.  My son has been so excited to get his own computer and two days on I am still stuck.

Chances are the system came with no operating system - is there a hard drive in the system?  Many times, businesses will remove the hard drive before auctioning the system.  At a minimum, chances are if there's a hard drive in teh system, that the OS has been wiped out (it was probably a corporate licensed version of Windows, which isn't transferrable).

Check the BIOS setup for a hard drive - if there isn't one, you'll need to buy one.  IF there is, you'll need to buy a copy of Windows to install on the system.

Yes, it is possible to boot a CD on that system.  If the drive is recognized, chances are you need to install an operating system onto it.

There is a Maxtor hard drive and I checked the cables were secure.  The primary hard drive 0 is on auto and primary drive 1 is off.  I believe it is not possible to boot up from a CD on this system.  Any other ideas?
