cannot connect to internet

I am using my sisters computer since I can not use mine, My computer will start-up normally but as soon as i try and go to AOL or Internet Explorer, A box pops up and says "Dell support Center has stopped working" and it runs a diagnostic to see whats wrong. It comes back "Dell will notify you when a fix is available" I also get" IE cannot connect "and it runs a diagnostic and tells me they found nothing wrong. I have talked to my service provider, which is Verizon, they say nothing is wrong with my broadband, we were able to ping Yahoo and Google. Does anyone have any ideas? I use a desktop Dimension E520 with Windows Vista

I know that the support center has nothing to do with connecting but thats the message I get.  I tried the  reinstall CD's that came with the computer  but they won't start automatically and I don't know how to get them to work

You will probably have to uninstall Dell Support Center. Open Add/Remove Programs control panel and look for Dell Support Center on the list. Uninstall it and reboot. See if that fixes the problem.

What version of Internet Explorer? Click Start>Programs and look for Internet Explorer (No Add-ins). See if that lets you get you on line.

When I turn the computer on, it comes up a black screen, then a box appears and says " your computer did not start up properly would you like to report this problem" then it gives you a yes or no box, whichever one you choose, it shuts the computer down. It won't let me do anything.

Do you have a Dell Vista Reinstallation CD/DVD?

You need to boot from that CD/DVD and follow the prompts to run a Repair. Personal files will be ok, but you may need to reinstall a bunch of Microsoft hotfixes and updates, as soon as possible after the repair.
