Case Fan Removal

Question

The case fan of my dimention8300 is attached to the plastic housing with the green air hood thing (i don't know what it's called). Is there a way to safely remove the fan? I removed the entire plastic assembly thing but the fan is attached by rubber tubes/screw-like studs. I do not wish to cut the rubber apart (i will if that's the only way to remove the fan)

and what size is that case fan?

Those studs/grommets are the pull-to-lock type, meant for one time install only. You'll have to replace them with something. (?)

The fan looks smaller than a 120mm but larger than an 80mm, as a guess maybe 92mm. The fans aren't labeled with that info, and I've not measured one.

Remember the fan has three wires; red/positive, black/negative, and white/detects the fan (for the BIOS) and likely has the temp sensor duties.

Changing to another fan may mean the new fan won't be detected, and you'll see that error each time you boot.

i have the same problem. The fan is too noisy(nmb 92x92 mm), I want to replace fan by the PAPST 3412 ,quieter but i cannot remove it   Thank you for help

A plan to replace the fan with a 80mm or 120mm and jus attach it to the case using tape or small bolts and then attaching the old fan to the CPU heatsink for CPU cooling (rite now I hav a 80mm fan attached to the CPU HS). Since the rubber things are one-way, is there a way to get replacement ones? And will removing the rubber things void the warranty?

Hi!
Just put some Silicone Spray or some kind of thin oil on the Rubber Parts and you can remove the fan very easy by pulling. So did I.
I changed the fan to Papst 8412 (12db). You will have a warning at startup but no other problems. Be sure to close the space around the fan. The Papst fan is not very strong and under heavy usage the powersupplyfan (also Temperaturcontrolled) will get louder due to the hot air inside the case. I had to remove some PCI-slot Brackets (first from Bottom) to enforce the airmovement for keeping the powersupplyfan calm. Worth to mention : I use a Zalmann Heatpipe on my Radeon 9800Pro and have no temperature problem.

BTW would u recommend the ThermalTake Smart Fan Series Fans for use in any computer, such as my dell?

Have a look at www.papst.de for further info's. They have tons of fans. Papst is a (almost?) German Manufacterer. The one I use is a 8412NGL (80 x 80) and you won't be able to hear it. There's a 3412 NGL (14db) which should suite exactly for exchange.
BTW : I have no experience with Thermal Take Fans but it seem to be a great brand.

Hmm... I havn't heard of this German company before, and i don't know who sells these products. Are Papst products hard to find? Where do you buy them from? And when you said earlier about the warning screen when you boot up does it happen everytime u boot up?
