Your CPU is one of the top Intel CPU's available. Your problem is more likely to be your video card. Can you tell us what video card you have?

Look here: http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/945p/index.htm
It looks like you can put the 6xx series cpus in your system. The fastest is the 670 which is a 3.8GHz cpu with HT. I can't find details on how it compares to the Dual-core cpus, but I suspect that the faster single-cores (esp with HT) will outrun dual-core chips in most gaming apps. One other thing - Dell doesn't exactly say anywhere on the spec sheet that this cpu will work in your system, only "Intel® Pentium® 4 Socket-T with Hyper-Threading or Dual-Core support" cpus. Theoretically it should, but I'd query the forum for somebody with a solid answer.

lol maybe its a rubbish game? or you need better drivers... lol and the 9100 is pretty new it would be pointless getting a new motherboard unless you wanted a new computer too

halo2online,

I have played many games on the 9100. They all ran fine. If different drivers (Omega, Ati) don't fix your gaming issues, then maybe your operating system needs fixed or tweaked. What other software have you loaded on this system?

What games are you trying to play?

Hey

Yeah im trying to play Call of Duty 2,Halfe life 2,Far Cry,Enemy territory  they all run decent.......some jerk badly....

I have catalyst 5.8
I havent loaded anyother software which would effect the performance..the only software on my computer which would even use resources is mcafee.....I just read that games do NOT use 2 threads....therefore 2 cpu's is rubbish for gaming......they use the same 800mhz FSB which is slow for 2 cpu's to be running on........i like the Dimension 9100 it's a great machine but i dont like the pentium d
i wanted to change to a single CPU becasue of a performance increase......My OS is tweaked for the best performance so i think when it comes down to it it's the Pentium D Which is making my games run rubbish

Thanks

Umm...I used to run ALL OF THOSE games on high settings with my x850 pro....Update to the latest catalyst 6.12...

The Pentium D is not making your performence rubbish. My FPS in CSS nearly doubled switching from a Single Core Athlon 64 @ 1.8GHz to a Dual Core Opteron 165 @ 1.8GHz, just because more system resources were freed up for the game...

Update your display driver to the Catalyst 6.12, like I said.

I didnt notice the date of the post, my fault on that part. As i side note i own a 7300gt and it actually performs better than the x850, due to it being based on the g73 chip, which is the same as in the 7600. It has better performance per clock , so even tho the x850 may be clocked higher, the 7300 can perform better and it does support shader model 3.0 as well. My 7300gt has a 128bt interface, not 64bit.

what are you talking about?... are you saying the x850 is slower than the 7300?...

I think the X850 is better than either of the cards you mentions. Granted, the X850 doesn't support SM 3.0. The X1600 offers only a 128 bit interface, and the 7300 suffers from a 64 bit interface. The X850 utilizes 256 bit, making it (IMHO) superior to either of the cards ricanflow mentioned.
I suspect like klbf and HTT, that the problem is with the drivers, and possibly the background tasks running - maybe even the amount of RAM (I don't recall seeing what the thread starter listed).

Hehe - neat, overclock the 7300GT's core to 725MHz, and memory to 1180MHz (2360DDR) and you'll have a card that compares to the X850 XT PE!
