Chipset Driver Conundrum!!!

Hello Fellow techies - I have been tasked with re-building a daycare computer  that does nothing but stream live video feeds from the various daycare rooms. The hard drive on the old compter kicked the bucket and then come to find out, the specs on the old computer that died did not meet the specs of the new Protech DVR software. So I ended up upgrading to a slightly newer Dell (from a GX260 to a Dimension 3000), made sure all the specs were there, but there is one last thing that needs to be done... updating the chipset with the latest driver and I keep getting the run around and errors at every turn!!!

I first did a general system utilties scan which said I had an i865p/g/pe/i848p chipset. But when I searched for this model on the Intel website nothing could be found! Then  I did an Intel system utilities scan and it said I need the most updated driver for 865G - so I tried installing that driver and it told me that:

Product Detected Intel® 865G
Current Driver Installed 6.14.10.4396
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

So then I come here to Dell and try to download the chipset driver for my computer tag and guess what - I get this error from the dell website:

Click Me for the Dell Dimension 3000 downloads, which includes the chipset driver.  DO NOT use the Dell download manager, download each needed driver directly.  The Download Manager has been known to cause download problem.

FYI, the correct and required install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Dell Desktop System Software (on applicable models) (3) Install motherboard chipset drivers (4) Install device drivers including Video, Dell sound driver, ethernet, etc.

Hello fireberd! Thanks for your reply :) Clicked your link as suggested and this has been the download link I have been trying to work with - but when you click on download it automatically trys to install the Dell Download Manager and doesn't allow me to skip over that and get to the driver itself!! This is where I get stuck at a standstill - seems like Dell won't let me at the driver file direct??

You need to look in add/remove or program and features( if using vista or win 7) to see if the Dell download manger program is listed. If so then delete it. Also you need to flush out all the Dell cookies from your web browser.

If i may ask what make you think you need to download the chipset driver? The one listed is from 2004. I really doubt that yours is not the most current.

Also because this is a Dell system the Intel drivers will not install. They are mainly for Intel spec mother boards.
