Clock Running Slower

Hi. First check your HDD for any virus. if no virus is found you may need to replace the battery in your motherboard.

have you installed norton antivirus recently? if so check their website for answer. or update your virus definitions for correction.

We have 2 Dell Dimension XPS boxes (T 500 and M 233s) running MS Windows 98 Second Edition with Norton AntiVirus 2000 and a lot of other stuff in the Background. I set the clocks daily, with the NIST 32 program from WWV in Boulder, Colorado. Generally they are within a few seconds, each day. I've seen something here that indicates there may be a problem with Norton AntiVirus and the Real Time Clock, but I have *never* seen that problem. If you have installed new software recently, check on the Support site of the company that published it. If not, first, replace the Battery on the Motherboard. If that does not cure the problem, I suspect you might need a new Motherboard, if the problem is bothering you so much that you would consider replacing the Motherboard. Hopefully, it's just the Battery or possibly a glitch in some program. Lanny in Cali, Colombia, South America

I have also had that same problem with th clock running slower. I dont have any norton Programs that would conflict. I dont know that it is my Battery but could some one tell me where to look to change my battery?

If rebooting corrects the clock time, then there is a program in Windows that is causing the clock to slow down. This can be especially likely if you run the computer for a long time in between reboots. Try disabling all background running applications.

Click START | RUN | type MSCONFIG press OK. Place a dot next to Selective startup and then remove the checks from AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. Next click the STARTUP tab and uncheck each item on the list (except for system tray), press OK and restart the system. See if the issue returns. If it does not, then you can replace one check at a time, restarting the computer after each to test if it is the culprit.
