Comp is slow after reinstalling XP

i just reinstalled my XP (repaired it, not installing a new copy) but noticed that my comp is significantly slower than before. i have a dell 4400, 1.6ghz, 128 ram, and 40 gb. i tried changing my virtual memory to 192, but all i get is 0. i read some posts that said i needed to uninstall Intel® Application Accelerator, but for some reason, my dell wouldn't let me. i tried manually doing it, but it still doesn't work. my comp is as slow as ever!!! is my comp slowing because of my lack of virtual memory, or something else? it takes an average of 5-8 min just to log into xp. thanx.

RaKku,

The first think I would do is install more memory. 128M's is a bare min., XP loves RAM. I would go to atleast 256M or 512M if you can. Then read this post and try the suggestions;

More memory is always good for performance. However, since nothing changed yet your system is now running slower you need to correct the current problem in order for your new memory to work to the max. To change your virtual memory you must log in as the Administrator and then change it either to your own suggested value or change it to let Windows manage the setting. Either way, your value of "0" in virtual memory would certainly account for the slowdown you are experiencing.

yea, i just ordered 512mb ram (its gonna come tommorow > ) and gonna install it. but, my concern is, after i reinstalled xp, my comp's speed drastically went down. i already did the tweaks like turning off unnecessary programs and stuff before i reinstalled the computer, so i know what my comp is capable of. before i reinstalled the xp, everything ran fine (kinda sluggish, but managable ), but now i can't even open one folder w/out the system stalling on me for about 2-3 minutes! i dunno, it just seems like reinstalling XP kinda screwed up my comp... what do u think?

Someone had similar problem that was related to the Intel Application Accelerator.

You should be able to remove it by control panel>add remove programs>select Intel Application Accelerator. If you couldn't that means the OS is not seeing it properly.

Don't know how else you can do to remove it other than reinstall XP, not just repair.

Assuming you are running XP on an 845 chipset-4400 or something close to it.. If so,
Check your add remove programs list for "Intel Application Accelerator" If you find it, uninstall it (system will work without it) And install the latest version>>>
If it won't uninstall, do this anyway:

Go here (To the Intel support site)>>> http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/filter_results.asp?strOSs=45&strTypes=DRV%2CARC&ProductID=663&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition&submit=Go%21

and download the latest version of "Intel Application Accelerator" version 2.2

Save it to your desktop, open it and let it install. Then reboot and see if your problem is gone.

Amazingly, the only version of this available from Dell as of today is well out of date, so Intel is the place to get it for now.

This file gets corrupted easily during a reinstall of XP, or perhaps replaced with an earlier version from one of the Dell "restore" disks, and will cause numerous startup problems and slow performance until it is updated to the latest version.
Even if this isn't the cause of your specific problem, it should be updated to the very latest version, available at the above link to Intel Support.

And BEWARE> If yor reinstall a bunch of drivers and other stuff from the Dell disks that came with your computer, you may well be installing earlier drivers, etc. than the ones that came pre-installed on the drive. So it isn't a very good idea to use the "Shotgun" approach by just reinstalling everything. You often wind up with more problems than you were trying to fix!!
