2) download regclean, run it.
3) scandisk.
**not necessarily in this order

I do. Both. is that bad?
I'm having the same problem... tried several of the sfc commands (/scannow and /revert and /purgecache) and couldn't fix the problem.
any other solutions?
thanks,

i asked that because roxio has a known issue with windows xp, you MUST get the upgrade from roxio's site. shouldn't be to difficult to find, just jump around www.roxio.com.
it caused all kinds of startup shutdown issues with my machine, until i applied fix and everything was good again.
hope it works for you!

I did that. Downloaded the patch from Roxio's site and everything is working fine now. I can't believe these guys released such a buggy software. It looks like some components are the more problematic (Take Two is completely removed by their upgrade and I was going to remove Direct CD as weel, but it wasn't necessary)
