Compatible memory for DELL XPS 710 H2C ?
My current config only has 2 gb or memory and running WINDOWS XP PRO, in the next 4-6 weeks I will be upgrading to VISTA ULTIMATE 64 bit.
I want to ask if I can use the memory listed below and will it make any difference, is adequate, or I can do much better with some other memory ?. I don't build my own PC's or anything like that and I was bought an XPS 710 H2C as a gift, so I am not familiar with the ins and outs of PC's, which is why I am asking here for advice and comments.
I have some spare cash to buy 8GB memory along with WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE and would appreciate your help or comment in making a decision to buy or not to buy.
Thanks in advance!
the memory I was thinking of buying is ..
OCZ 8GB (4x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Quad Channel Platinum Low Latency XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P8008GQ)
800MHz DDR2
- CL 5-4-4-18 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
- Platinum Mirrored XTC* Heatspreader
- OCZ Lifetime Warranty
- 2.1-2.2 Volts
- 240 Pin DIMM
- OCZ Enhanced Latency Technology
- 2.2V EVP**
My current system spec is ...
DELL XPS 710 H2C
QX6700 PROCESSOR
2GB MEMORY
2 X NVIDIA 768MB GTX SLI
WINDOWS XP PRO
SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 1100DF

the only issue i for see is installing Vista. It appeares that you have to install the os with only 2 gigs installed then apply updates to get it to work properly with more than 2 gigs...that being said that would mean you would have only one stick installed and most of the time you should have memory installed in pairs..
It may post with one stick but may not perform well..

Thanks for the reply!
Yes I agree!,
It was my intension to use the old 2GB of memory and install WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE, download and install the updates, then place in the new 8GB of memory. I believe this is the correct way to do it.
My main concern is the OCZ memory listed at the top of the thread, are there any known problems with this memory, and is it safe and compatable with my machine ?..

the 2 gig sticks are just now starting to become used in systems so there is not a lot of info on them.

The 2 most common memory used by people in xps's are the Ocz and the Corsair.
Both are good.

Yes you are quite right! .. the XPS 710 can only go as high as 667mhz, I will take the trouble free route and just upgrade to that speed.
Thanks to all who replied, I now have the answer!
