Computer shut down suddenly
I've only had my Dimension 5100c since Sept. 2005 & I'm alreadly having major problems with it. My computer shuts down on its own while using it. I've spoken to Dell support techs upwards of 6 hours. My hardrive got replaced 2 times by Dell techicians. The first replacement didn't work at all & the 2nd replacement only worked for a week , then my computer shut down again. To this day my problem isn't solved; This has been going on since Dec. 27.
The latest probable problem I was told is that it maybe a software problem. Today I spent over 2 hours on the phone to a support technician, where I was instructed to open my computer & take out the memory & place it back again. Needless to say, this was a harrowing experience since I'd never done this before.
I was instructed to erase the the system so that we can install Windows xp & God knows what again.
I inserted the operating system disk as instructed only to get an error message & then my computer shut down again.
The technician, I think in desperation, asked me to look behind the computer & asked me if I can see the fan spinning. I didNOT see the fan spinning but I did feel hot air coming from behind the computer.
Could this problem be as simple as a fan not working? I've run a virus scan & there are no viruses found.
Has anyone out there experience anything like this on their Dimension?

hardware related, over heating could totally cause it
if you need to see what one looks like search
images.google.com
for bulging capacitors
also I see Dell power supplies just go out
So, get someone to fix it before your warranty is up
Computer shut downs are bad.
