computer shutdown occassionally
I will be online and have some programs open and then all the sudden it is like a power loss to the computer. It shuts itself down and then reboots itself and scandisk runs. It doesnt happen all the time and certain programs dont seem to cause it. Any Help is appreciated. It is an xpst with 850 and I use AOL is there a possible virus and when it happens there is a icon that appears in my toolbar that shows 2 computers with a red x on one like one stopped talking to the other but there is no other computer hooked to mine

spontaneous reboots are often caused by programs loaded automatically at system startup. By preventing the system from loading these programs the problem can be resolved in a majority of the cases. Me and many others were completely successful with this procedure. Hardware reasons (e.g. power supply) for spontaneous reboots are very seldom. In these threads you will find practical hints. Don't take out explorer and systray from the startup list.

Search also in this forum for 'spontaneous' or 'spontaneous reboots', but I'm afraid that the search option doesn't work correctly.
If your PC is new and still within the 30 days warranty period, don't hesitate to send it back to DELL. I hope that some day they will pay more attention on this subject. A lot of people encounter this problem!
