Connect Automatically

Hi,

Recently upgraded to Windows 98 SE. When I click to get on the Internet, my dial up connection remembers by password but does not connet automatically. How can I get it to just connect automatically, instead of putting a check mark back in and hitting connect?

Thanks this forum has helped me a bunch.

Hi Janie,

So when I told you before that you should go to My Computer | Control Panel | Internet Options | Connections, and put a check in the box to the left of the statement Always dial my default connection, click Apply, then OK, it didn't work out?

You wouldn't happen to have AOL as your ISP would you? If so, this automatic connection may not be possible, according to Microsoft. This article, Q165474, references that--way at the bottom of the page.

This article may apply to your situation as well: Q191451; you might not run PKZip, but Tsadbot may be found with other so-called freeware utilities, and it may be on your system.

This is all I was able to find on the subject at the Microsoft Knowledge Base, but perhaps others will be able to add something here, OK?

Good luck,

Kay

Janie,

There's a possibility that this may help.

Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java.

Thanks Kay,

Sorry I only have a local ISP. Your suggestion before only helped in that it finally started saving my password. Still wouldn't connect automatically. In reading Denny sugestion, I tried that and it worked. Does anyone know why just going to empty the Temporary Internet Files would finally let me connect automatically? Sorry just having trouble getting use to Windows 98 after so many years of Windows 95.

Thanks

Janie: It's one of the wonders of Windows and what keeps forums like this going..... I guess that makes it a feature right, not a bug..... (grin!!!!)
