corrupt video card issue?

Question

Got an error message today saying Windows had to shut down to avoidcorrpution or something like that then said sonething about an infinite loop regarding my video card  something like nvd4_disp. Called tech support they said had some sort of video driver issue. we tried to uninstall/reinstall from Nvidia site, Dell site and my resource cd... no success... get black screen when reboot occurs.. the only way to get to my desktop is to boot in safemode.. Tech support says need to wipe and start over that issue appears to be some sort of incompatibility with a windows update and the video card drivers.  I pulled the video card out and tried in another machine seem to work fine... Not sure what to do at this point. Any advice would be appreciated.   System info Dimension 8300 nvidia fx5200 video

May I make a small suggestion first, before going through a reinstall. Uninstall the driver once more, than use the below driver cleaner to get rid of all the remaining code to that driver. Have a new updated driver from www.nVidia.com web site and not use the one on the cd at all. Have the newer driver downloaded to the desktop until later. Use the Driver Cleaner Program below twice, than reboot the system. Install the newer driver at this time, reboot the system and if necessary go into the Display Properties to reset the monitors native resolution. See what happens

When you install the driver, make sure you are not on the internet and the anti virus software is disabled first.

I did everything you said... seems to work thank you... however on eproblme may still exist... for some reason my display settings keep resetting themselves to 600x800 and 8 bit color..any ideas?

You did go into Display Properties to reset the monitor resolution, than click Apply, than OK did you not.  Monitor will go blank for a second or two, than another window will appear in the upper left side of the screen asking you if you wish to keep the new settings.  You have a short time limit to click Yes before it goes back to the original settings
