D2400 Video Card Problems

Howdy,

I recently bought a Radeon 9250 256mb PCI graphics card.. and learned the hard way that it is not compatable with my Dell Dimension 2400 computer.. I tried all the reccomended steps... Disabling the onboard intel graphics card, updating BIOS, etc, etc. all to no avail.

I'm in the process of returning the card to tigerdirect, but before I buy a new one I want to be sure it will be compatable with my computer.  I'm looking into something by NVidia, a member of the GeForce family.. Specifically a Chaintech GeForce FX 5200 / 256MB DDR / PCI / DVI / TV-Out / Video Card.

Will any video cards work on the D2400? Or are they all doomed to failure due to this onboard graphics problem?  Has anyone had experience with this specific problem, and found a card that does work?  Any help or suggestions will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Only PCI cards will work. Go with the Geforce FX5700LE.

I don't mean to be skeptical, but "It will work" doesn't quite reassure me.  I've already lost 15% of $100 on the Radeon card I bought, due to the restocking fee.  I'm reading other threads and noticed that for most people with the D2400, after updating BIOS and disabling the onboard graphics as reccomended, the Radeon 9250 PCI still didn't work for me.. Will the GeForce FX 5200 be different? Or will I run into the same problem and lose more money.  Because I tried ALL the troubleshooting steps reccomended for installing a video card on a Dimension 2400, and nothing helped with the Radeon, so that's why I'm a little worried.. If this GeForce doesn't work.. then I don't know what else I could possibly do.

Well lets see, every computer is diff .  The FX 5xxx series is the only recomended cards for your sys.  So getting one will work, BUT instead of getting the 5200 can u try and get the 5700LE instead?

The card that I listed is a PCI card, you can check the link on tigerdirect if you want. My main question, that maybe wasn't obvious enough in the first post is.. will a GeForce work?

I just tried installing the Radeon 9250 PCI card, and found it's not compatable with my D2400.  I updated BIOS, disabled the onboard card and everything and it did not work.  If I switch to the GeForce family, a GeForce FX 5200 specifically, (Yes, it's a PCI card too) will that work? I've been thumbing through posts on here, and I've seen lots of yes's, and lots of no's.. Just because it's a PCI card doesn't mean it will work with the D2400.

What difference would the 5700 LE make?  I can't find it in my searches.. I usually order from tigerdirect.com, or if possible buy directly from Best Buy..

I'll level with ya here... I just bought Guild Wars a few weeks ago, and damnit I want to play it!  Right now i'm planning on ordering the 5200 overnight delivery from tigerdirect.. But.. the 5700 LE.. elaborate.

yes, umm, so your saying that a Geforce FX 5700le will work with a Dimension 2400?
because just today i started looking into getting a new gfx card but my friend had recently got an upgrade too, and he told me that radeon wouldnt work with my comp.
so, you guys are positive the Geforce FX 5700LE will work? or should i go to the service and support?

[Edit]: Will this gfx card replace the Intel Integrated card or would it just cover it up?

[Edit2]: Also, will a GeForce FX 5500 OC work with a D2400?

1oo% sure that the 5700LE will work.  Just MAKE sure its a PCI card.  Your going to have to disable ur intergrated graphics.  Heres the insctructions http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_video&message.id=108582

Dont go for that one, many people report problems using the ATI 9250's.  Thats y I said go for the geforce 5700le (which u can get at newegg), thats recommend to work.

Also the 5700 is around $80 vice $130 for that ATI card fr Best Buy.

will getting this 5700LE reduce the jagged edges on the models and textures of high quality games such as HL2(Half Life 2)? and will it be able to display Shiny, reflection textures? because the one i have now will not reflect or give the shiny effect.

Also, will it reduce the amount or random stalls or lag and choppiness?

[edit]: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=319178&pfp=cat3
would this one work?
