D4600 Power Supply

I have a D4600 running XP Pro. On boot up it gets to the Windows XP screen then suddenly goes black and the "No Signal..." error message appears.  It will run in safe mode but when attempting to run IE keyboard and mouse freeze.  I am assuming this is a PS problem. My question: Can I replace the 250w PS that came with the system with a 400w ps?

thanks in advance

Yes, because the D-4600 has an open back, you can use most standard generic, ATX PSU's, with a 20-pin or 20 + 4-pin main motherboard connector and with or without the on/off switch.

I replaced my psu a couple of months ago with a Thermaltakr 430 watt psu for $40.  It runs fine.  Any atx psu will work.  Look at Newegg.com and get something on sale that you like.

Ok, thanks for the prompt reply. I just can't get through my head that you can replace 250 watts with 400watts and not fry the motherboard or something else.  I'll give it a try.

Thanks again for the quick responses!

UPDATE:!!!!!!!!!
I swapped out the ps and the issue still remained.  (PC starting but at Win XP screen would go black and "No Signal" error pop up).

On a whim I had an older GeForce4 video card and installed it in place of the GeForce FX 5200.  PC booted to windows!!!!

Sorry for placing this in the wrong forum!!  I thought and a few others thought it was a power supply issue.

Again Bev,
Thanks for everything!
Steve
