Date and Time problem...
Have an XPS420, Intel Q6600, Vista Premium, GEForce 8800 Graphics.
Random & intermittent problem with the date & time reverting to the BIOS creation date (Nov 12, 2007, I believe). On boot the system give me an error: "Data & time not set". If I go into setup to correct this, it reboots with the same error. So I have to just hit "F1" & set the date/time in Windows.
Tech support has no clue what's causing it - I've been through 2 machines & 3 motherboards (3rd machine to be delivered tomorrow) & they've all had this problem. Is this a Vista problem? What's the fix? And lastly, is it anything serious or indicative of a potentially bigger/catastrophic failure or just (as I suspect) an annoyance. I suppose I can just reset the date/time when this happens, but it's extremely annoying to have to live with a glitch like this on a brand new machine!!
I plan on using the new machine that's arriving tomorrow, as-is (i.e.: no additional software or data installed) for a while & see if it exhibits the problem. If it appears solid, then I plan to swap hard drives with my current unit (since I've already installed several applications & tranferred most of my data!), to see if the problem re-occurs. I really don't want to have to rebuild & restore everything on yet another machine!!
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Barry
