It's just that according to a Sunday phone call to Dell they've been selling 4400's since Dec. 17th and not produced a single one yet in manufacturing! See the Order Status forum topic Dimension 4400 Not In Production for details.
This is very interesting that you got your 4400 already? I was told by Dell (Gale) what I had posted. I ordered mine on 12/21 and still have an estimated ship date on or before 1/18. On other forums here Marcy and Chandler both admitted recently that the new 4400 annouced since 12/17 was a pre-order or pre-sale of this model. Anyway I'm glad you got it!!!

I was surprised as well my ship date was 1/08/2002. To my surprise it shipped much, much earlier. I think my slipped through. It may have been one of the 1st orders for the 4400.
Cool, since you are one of the 1st to have your hands on a 4400 I'd like to ask you about it since I ordered one too. With the 256mb memory, how is it installed on the motherboard? Is it populated with a single 256mb module or is both slots filled with 128mb each? Did you get the Gforce2 card, if so how is it with 3D games if you play them? In general are you impressed with it's system performance/speed?

To tell you the truth, it's not all that much faster than the 4300 I sent back. The vid. card is about the same as the Radeon I had in my 4100. I only got 128 Mb of ram & got a 512 Mb module for a little over $100 plus shipping. Everything is exacly the same as the 4300 except for the type of ram it uses. Sorry if I ruined your expectations about it. Typically you can't really notice any speed difference under 30%. You will get a much better speed gain by getting a fast HD & vid. card. I am getting a TI200 or Radeon 8500, or a Fire GL 8800. I have not tested it on the only app. that I use wich requires any kind of speed. That app is Revit 4.0 & ACAD. I hope to get at least a 30% - 50% increase in rendering speed for 3d fly-arounds. For everything else I use this comp. for my setup is way overkill. I don't play very many games, hardly ever do any WP. I burn cd 1-2 times a month, e-mail & go online. Hope this helps.
