Dell 2400 Memory Problems - Urgent!

Your prior post asked if it would FIT.  The answer provided by ejn63 was that it would FIT, but to make sure your seller guaranteed it would work.

Clearly you bought incompatible or defective memory.

There are THOUSANDS of posts on these forums about how Dell computers are finicky on memory, so many that I made it part of my signature.  Yet people constantly buy cheap memory, usually at a retail store where they spend money on gas and waste their time trying to get the memory to work and wondering why it doesn't.  In some cases, the machine no longer boots, in other cases it damages the machine.

If you don't buy memory specified for your model Dell and guaranteed to work by your supplier, then it may or may not work.  Why?  Because that's the way it is.

So that rules out the possiblility of it being cheap memory from a retail store

Is it KVR memory (Kingston Value Ram)?  If so, then it is not specified for any Dell computer.

If it's regular Kingston memory, that you should have bought a stick specified for the 2400.  If you did that, then either it's defective or you didn't install it properly or you have a bad slot.
