Dell Asset Utilities

Hi all!

I'm working as a Dell-Engineer in Switzerland at the moment.
I've got one Problem, that i want to solve:
When i change a Motherboard, i should change the Service Tag, with an Asset Utility.
I've always got a CD with me, with that Utility on it. But sometimes it don't work, because
the computer isn't supported by the CD (Asset Utility), even if i type 'ASSET 111X0J /s' manually.

So what i want to do now, is to Burn a CD with the different Asset Utilities.
But there are so many Utilitys online. Where can i find a pack for ALL computermodel (all insprion, all latitude, all GX, and so on....). It's even hard to get these utilities for 1 model!

Dell gave us a great Asset Utility at work.

It works with Almost all Inspiron, Dimmension, Lattitude, and OptiPlex. It also lets you change or delete asset, service, and owner tags. Yes, I am confirming we can change, set, or delete service tags with it.

I cannot give this one out because we have a contract not to give this specific utility out due to its service tag changing abilities.

Okay, you need to do the following.

Change your syntax to

asset /s SERVICE_TAG

To recap you have to use the /s and you will need a compatible asset tag program and DOS Boot Media.

Here is what you will want to do:

1. Get the appropriate Asset Utility. I will leave it up to you. Typically they are called something like asset.cm

2. Make an MS-DOS (or possibly DR-DOS) boot floppy. If you don't have the DOS files, simply download the Dell Pre-Packaged BIOS floppy for just about any system. Delete the BIOS update program and autoexec.bat from the disk laving io.sys, msdos.sys, and command.com at least. You can serriously get the required DOS stuff from Dell by following these steps.

3. If you want to make a CD, the easiest way to do it is to use Nero to setup a CD to do Floppy Emulation. It works really well and is easy to do.
