Dell Dimension 3000

Question

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 and its been a really good computer. And the other day I unplugged the VGA cable from this widescreen monitor i was using to view it on and it was still powered up. I went and plugged that cable back into the Dell Flat Screen Monitor and no video and so then i just turned off the computer by unplugging it and then turned it back on. Now The power light stays solid orange, and the HD light will be green for about 20secs and then goes off. you can hear the HD take off and then stop and take off. repeating this over and over. I have tried some different ways to troubleshoot this but i need some more tips. I'll let you know if I've tried your tip or not.

yes i have done all of that. and the 3000 or at least mine doesnt have the Lights on the back for the error checking. I use to have a Geforce card i had on it but i went back to the onborad, but that was a long time ago. u think i could put that other card back in and it pick it back up and runn off the geforce?

For a 'Solid' amber power button LED, have you tried the following,

Remove and then reinstall the memory modules.

Remove and then reinstall any cards.

Remove and then reinstall the graphics card, if applicable.

Remove and reseat all the power and data cables.

Check the sequence of the diagnostic lights on the back panel of the case.

Yes im sure there is not 4lights above the ports, ive seen other dells that had the lights on the back but mine for some reason did not have them. How can i disable the video card if i can not get into bios or boot into windows. the computer goes nowhere?

Yes, you could try reinstalling the PCI graphics card.

Are you certain it's Dell Dimension 3000, because these systems, have 4-Diagnostic Lights, located above the mouse and keyboard ports, on the back panel?

**Update. I have found the lights on the back. for some reason mine are really small lights, ive compared them to another dell my friend has and hers are bigger, and my VGA cable was covering them up. But now that i turn on the PC and the lights show all 4 to be OFF NO LIGHTS! So anymore Tips?   Thanks

First unplug the cord from the power supply, hold the power button in for about 15/20 seconds, open the case, unplug the 20 pin connector from the motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the Black wires, reconnect the cord and see if power supply fan and hard drive run, then the PSU is good.

Note= Do not remove any wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a jumper.

Power supply checks out and the system still does not work, again remove power cord, hold power button in to discharge the residue power, reconnect the 20-pin connector to the motherboard.

Remove all the PCI cards, the video card [if applicable], memory, all peripherals, disconnect the data and power cables to all the drives, then check that the front panel cable is connected to motherboard, with nothing else connected to the system, except the power cable, power the system on.

If you do not get any beep codes or no diagnostic lights on the back panel, then it would appear that motherboard has died.

The Power Supply Checks out, which i had already tested it with a Meter Tester, but it seems that the fans and stuff didn't fire up on testing and no lights so you said that seems like a motherboard failure.   Anybody else any tips?

mine still isnt working, i was needing to know how to use another graphic card from the onboard? is there anyway to do this without using bios? and still no lights or nothing on the pc and no lights on the back panel either. anymore ideas on what no diagnostic lights means?
