Dell Dimension 4100
I have an ole' 4100 desktop, it originally came with WinMe for an OS. It now has XP Pro on it. The "specs" for it say it has a maximum ram of 512. Is the 512 maximum because of WinMe ???? With XP, can you actually increase the ram, or will the mb not recognize more than 512 ?

I'm afraid this is a hardware limit. The following is excerpted from the online service manual:
Memory
The complete reference guide is here: Dimension 4100 Reference Manual.

ok,,, wanted to double-check. I have heard several times that "many" mfg.'s maximum ram,was based on either the Operating System, or it was the maximum available at the time the pc was manufactured, so it would say that in the manual. Since this was a WinMe machine from Dell, [ before XP was available ] I thought maybe XP would recognize more ram.
