dell dimension 4600 RAM
I was wondering if any body could tell me if this ram will be compatible with my dell dimension 4600. I'm not sure if it is the 533 mhz bus or 800 mhz bus. And for future reference are there other things I have to worry about other than: ram speed, #of pins, density of ram? I've heard that chip sets sometimes don't match even when I match all of these listed parameters.

Possible, with eBay it's a case of buyer beware, before buying any memory, best to find out what the seller's return policies are.

For comparison, look at what Crucial recommends for this system. And they guarantee it works in the system for which they recommended it or they take it back.
You can use the free CPU-Z to see what the FSB bus speed is.
Is it worth putting any money into a D4600?
Keep in mind that a 32-bit version of Windows can only use ~3.2-3.5 GB of RAM when the max amount (4 GB) is installed. So nothing is gained by trying to install more, and it might not even boot with more than 4 GB installed.

Well my situation is that I have 4 dell dimension 4600s that were given to me for free and I'm trying to put some money into them to modernize them as much as I can and then sell them for a little bit of profit so that I can start working on more modern PCs with the profits. I am aware about the 32-bit limitations, I was thinking about possibly just upgrading to the 4 gigs of ram even though part of it I won't be able to access. I'm new to building PCs but I think I know a decent amount about hardware considering my level of experience. Maybe my while plan is just silly haha

4 Gigs of DDR 400 will cost more than a newer PC that is faster and comes with windows 7. The ram must be Low Density and INTEL compatible or it wont work. If its really cheap and says what you want to hear its likely that its not what it claims to be like a 550W power supply that costs $20. You are left with a blown up motherboard or parts that don't work and they got your money.

I'm not ignoring what you said at all but I was looking on eBay for compatible ram and I found this.[View:m.ebay.com/.../111491461454]. So because it doesn't say anywhere that it's Intel compatible or probably won't work with my PC? And then I should do what with my 4 dell dimensions lol

I did a little more digging on eBay and I found claims for 4gb 400mhz Intel compatible low density ram for a s low as 20 dollars. Should I be ignoring these claims?
