Dell Optiplex 330 CPU Upgrading
My 330 has the E4400 dual core Conroe-2M running at 2.0 GHz
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29753
Which has a TDP of 65W
I understand that the Y935C Wolfdale E8400 3.00GHz 6MB 1333FSB 65W CPU has been validated for this PC but would like to consider a quad core CPU.
Would the E8400s Quad core work in the 330? or a similar quad core?
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=42112
Which too has a TDP of 65W
I may be limited by the chipset used in the 330 which Is
Detected chipset = Intel (R) G33/G31 express chipset
Memory controller = Intel (R) 82G33/G31 memory controler hub
I/O controller = Intel(R) 82801GR /O controller
hub (ICH7R) SATA Contoller
My system's specs are:
4 gig ram
Windows XP Pro w/sp3
Bios A07

I can answer my own question as I installed a E8600 this morning and all seems well so far, I updated the BIOS before I peformed the upgrade :emotion-2:
So Yes the E8600 dual core works in the Optiplex 330 :emotion-2:

It appears that Core 2 Quad processors are not support by the Optiplex 330, see HERE

Thanks for that I so am limited to dual cores for this machine, as the 8400 works see above, then logically this should work?
Core 2 Duo E8600 (3.33GHz,1333FSB,L2:6MB,65W,rev.E0)
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=35605&processor=E8600&spec-codes=SLB9L
checked it out and it is compatible with Intel® G31 Express Chipset with 82801GB I/O Controller Hub (ICH7)
Thanks,
Simon

Am I right that the E8600 processor would work in the Dell Optiplex 330?
Thanks
Simon :)

Q8400 works and I guess Q8400s should work better.
