Dell precision 370 major start up problems

Hello,

Thank you in advance for any and all help.

When I power on my precision 370 the fans turn on full speed but no display on screen. I get a double beep and the diagnostics lights are ABC green and d is yellow.

Two beeps is not a documented beep code for the 370. Beep codes on this model come in groups of 3, eg 1-2-1, with the groups separated by a short pause.  Could the code you're hearing be 2-2-2? That would be a RAM problem.

GGGY means:

"Another failure has occurred. Ensure that the cables are properly connected to the system board from the hard drive, CD drive, and DVD drive."

Power off, unplug and press/hold power button for ~15 sec. Open case and carefully reseat RAM modules and PCI cards in their slots. Reseat the power and data cables at both ends for all drives. Use canned air to clean out the dust bunnies.

Then remove motherboard battery and press/hold power button for ~30 sec. Reinstall the battery and close case. See if it boots now with only mouse, monitor and keyboard connected.

And if the battery is more than ~2-3 years old, this might be the time for a new one. CR2032, 3-volt lithium ion battery, ~$2 at discount stores.

Hang on a nano-sec...

If you don't have it in a Precision 370 case, that may be your problem. Dell PCs typically have a circuit board in the front panel. And if the front panel connector on the motherboard isn't connected to anything...

Beep codes on this model are groups of beeps separated by a very short interval, eg, 1 beep-1 beep-2 beeps.

First, It would probably have to be a Precision 370 case with the front panel because front panel connectors and wiring are usually specific for each model.

Or, you'd have to be able to trace the wiring so you could try to connect the motherboard to a non-Dell case. You might search these forums to see if somebody has successfully used a Precision 370 motherboard in a non-Dell case.

Sorry, but my crystal ball is broken. There could be a dozen reasons why it doesn't work, even in a Precision 370 case. You won't know until you know whether it works or not.

Guess it comes down to how much time and money you're willing to put into it...
