Dell Precision T3500 error: Incompatible video controller. Vesa function 0x4f02 returned AX = 14f
I just received a refurbished Precision T3500
On boot i get this error: Media test failure check cable
Hard drive plugged in and spinning.
When I press f2 for boot utility i get the following error
Incompatible video controller
Vesa function 0x4f02 returned AX = 14f
If I can't even get into the BIOS, what hope do I have to even begin to troubleshooting?
Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Mrgulic,
The first error means you either have no boot drive, a bad boot drive, or no OS. The second error may be a problem with the monitor. The BIOS cannot display on some large widescreen monitors. Do you have an older one you can try?

Thank-you for taking the time to reply.
The only screen I have is the Acer widescreen its plugged into, mfg'd in 2009., the same year I think they began manufacturing this Precision model. I did have a 2012 Optiplex plugged into it, but the Dell crapped out some time ago, just a few weeks after its warranty expired. That figures, right?
I will try to borrow another monitor from somone to test your theory.

Tried a different LCD monitor, same error.
I can run the diagnostic utility, but that is all (same as with the other LCD)

F2 is not boot utility. There is no BIOS Boot utility. F12 is Boot Option for DVD or USB FLASH and only with Non UEFI bios or bios set to Legacy CSM mode.

Thanks for your reply.
F2, F12, potato, patato. I wasn't sitting in front of the defective product when I was composing the post.
Point was that I could not enter BIOS or the boot utility, only the system diagnostic would run.
I removed the *** Nvidia Quadro NVS 295 and replaced it with the Nvidia one that came with a no longer functioning Optiplex 380. I was then able to enter the BIOS, correct the boot drive sequence and now ESX is installing.
