Dell Studio XPS 9100 Intel I7 990 Processor
Hi to everyone. I have a dell studio xps 9100 desktop. I want to know if anyone from the dell community that has a dell studio xps 9100 desktop with an Intel I7
990x Extreme Edition Processor in it? What version of the Studio XPS 9100 bios (if it is AO2 or AO4) is installed on the Studio XPS 9100 desktop with an Intel I7
990x Extreme Edition Processor?

The Intel Core i7-990X processor (3.46GHz, 12MB L2) is supported by the Studio XPS 9100.
Prior to installing the processor, check that BIOS version A04 is installed, when support for Intel new CPUs was added.

So, I'm looking to upgrade my XPS9100 to a Core i7-990x. My question is whether the existing heatsink/fan combo with my Core i7-960 will be sufficient for the Core i7-990x. I can't find any documentation that covers whether it uses a different part number or not.

I see no reason why the 990X wouldnt work. But you may need to update BIOS before changing.

I know for a fact it will work - it's a supported processor on my motherboard and with my BIOS revision. My question is whether Dell used a different heatsink and fan for the 990X versus my 960 when they shipped it from the factory. I'd prefer to stick with the parts that are there, but really need a good parts list for an XPS 9100 that was shipped with a 990x from the factory.
