DELL Support A+
This is my first DELL and i have had it a month and i have had to contact DELL support for various problems. My CD's came with one scratched, DELL replaced within 3 days. UMAX scanner would not work,
DELL replaced with a Visioneer 7600. Modem would only connect at 28k, Used the DELL tech suggestions and now modem connects at 50k. Loud FAN, DELL has scheduled to replace the FAN with a new quiet one in early SEPT. Compared to the support i have had with other companies DELL's support gets a A+. Yes i will buy another DELL because of the great support i have gotten.
Thanks,
craig

Please don't misunderstand me, I am not bashing Dell. As you read through these different threads, you will see that you are (or were) in your "honeymoon period" with your new (possibly a 4100?) computer..by that I mean in the 30 day "no question product return" time frame. I have seen over and over that Dell will go the extra mile during these 30 days, obviously it is in their best interest to have you keep the computer and not return it. In your case, that seems to have worked just fine, and you are a highly satisfied customer, which is great!
My point was simply this, Dell could have, should have, and probably DID know that the scanner would not work as you described..Modems can be configured differently for different situations, I will give them that one..but, the fan issue is one item that they WERE and ARE aware of, and continued until very recently ship with this problem. One of the reasons I mentioned the 4100 model above is that Dell very recently stopped (officially "delayed") shipping this particular model because of all the various problems, BIOS, etc.
I believe that Dell has given in to the corporate philosophy that in order to satisfy their most important customers, namely their stockholders, they have begun shipping systems with known bugs, defective or inferior parts, and incompatable hardware configurations. This "ship it now and fix it later" philosophy is short term thinking at best, and will overtax tech support to the point that it will cost Dell much, much more in the long term...
The Dell moderator is of course, welcome to respond.
All in my humble opinion, of course.

For someone obviously not thrilled with Dell, you sure spend a lot of time in their talk forums.

"The real issue here is that the computer SHOULD have worked perfectly when you took it out of the box......"
I stand by my original statement.

The fan was working perfectly, but a little loud.
All these problems had nothing to do with the operation of the computer. The system has had not one problem, no lockups, no crashes, all games are playing great, no shudown problem and no startup problems. My point was that DELL handled these minor issuses quickly and to my satisfaction.
