Dell XPS 435T Hangs randomly

So the new XPS 435T comes.  I install 12 GB of new patriot ram.  Things are looking great for the first couple hours of updates and installing new software.

All of the sudden the system just freezes in windows, can't even hit ctr+alt+delete.  Forces me to hold the power button to restart the computer.  I'm not sure what brings this on but it seems to happen only when I'm downloading something.

I did try doing a fresh install of windows from the restore CD.  I installed the ATI radeon driver from their site.  The issue is still here.  So am I stuck calling dell to return it? For the record my Vostro did the exact same thing to me.  This seems to be a common thing with dells or is it just me.

Are you absolutely sure the new RAM you installed is compatible with your Dell? How does your system run with the original Dell RAM when you received it? Is the Dell RAM voltage and CAS different than the new RAM? Dell's are picky with RAM and its CAS and voltage.

I had many issues similar to this.  After much head-scratching looking for bad drivers, etc. I finally ran the pre-boot assessment available from the BIOS menu and discovered I had a bad hard drive 0.  Dell is sending a replacement drive for me to install (which I find a bit odd).  I am then to return the defective drive.  Hope this helps!
